What is a Forest School?

Forest Schools developed from the Scandinavian education system where children are encouraged to develop their self-esteem and independence through exploring and experiencing the natural world.

What will we be doing?

Among other things, shelter building, knot tying, fire building, cooking, using tools, whittling sticks, making necklaces, crowns and dream catchers, creating collages from natural materials, weaving with grasses, making wood cookies, hunting for mini-beasts and investigating the woodland environment . . . . .

Health and Safety?

The Forest School Leader is fully trained in risk assessment and emergency outdoor first aid. The site and activities are risk assessed and there is a health and safety policy. First Aid and emergency equipment is on site. Sessions are run on a high adult to child ration. Nevertheless, children are supported in recognising and managing risk for themselves through real life situations and experiences.

Are we insured?

We are and we will meet claims resulting from accidental injury or damage to property in the unlikely event that it was caused as a result of negligence on our part.
